Mushroom Chocolate Bars

What this page covers:what's printed on published mushroom-chocolate product pages, brand by brand. It does not evaluate taste, overall nutrition, or make efficacy claims beyond what each brand discloses. Check each brand's own product page, linked below, for the current label.
In one line

Mushroom chocolate blends cacao with mushroom powder or extract, usually Lion's Mane, Reishi, or Cordyceps, but disclosure of dose, extraction type, and lab testing is thinner across this category than it is for capsule supplements: of the three brands checked here, only one publishes a milligram dose, and none publish a beta-glucan percentage or third-party test result.

What's in the bar, brand by brand

Four Sigmatic's Calm Cacao states its Reishi comes from a "log-grown" fruiting body extract, with the brand saying no mycelium or fillers are used, but it's sold as a hot cocoa mix packet rather than a solid bar, and the product page does not publish a milligram dose. Nibble Chocolate sells single-species 70% dark chocolate bars (Lion's Mane, Reishi, or Cordyceps) and states its mushrooms are "full spectrum" and certified organic, but does not specify fruiting body vs. mycelium, a dose, or any lab testing. All-Star Chocolate publishes the clearest per-bar number of the three, 500 mg each of Lion's Mane and Reishi, but its own FAQ describes the mushrooms as ground whole powder mixed into the chocolate, not a standardized extract, and the product was listed sold out when checked.

Why the disclosure gap matters

Capsule brands on this site, like Nootropics Depot and Real Mushrooms, routinely publish a beta-glucan percentage and name a testing method (NMR species verification, ISO-lab HPLC testing) alongside their extraction type. None of the three chocolate brands checked for this page publish either figure, and only All-Star Chocolate publishes a milligram dose at all, and that dose is whole mushroom powder rather than a concentrated extract, which is a different kind of number than a capsule label's standardized-extract dose. That doesn't mean the products don't contain what they say; it means a buyer comparing a chocolate bar to a capsule supplement or a clinical study dose has less label information to work with in this category than in most others on this site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's in a mushroom chocolate bar?

Chocolate (cacao, a sweetener, cocoa butter) blended with mushroom powder or extract, most commonly Lion's Mane, Reishi, or Cordyceps. What's disclosed about the mushroom half varies a lot by brand: some publish a milligram dose per bar, others only name the species.

Is mushroom chocolate the same dose as a mushroom supplement capsule?

Usually not comparable, and often not checkable at all. All-Star Chocolate publishes 500 mg each of Lion's Mane and Reishi per bar, whole mushroom powder rather than a standardized extract. Nibble Chocolate and Four Sigmatic's Calm Cacao don't publish a milligram dose at all, so there's no way to compare either one to a capsule label or a study dose.

Do mushroom chocolate brands publish beta-glucan percentage or lab testing?

Not among the three brands checked for this page. None of Four Sigmatic's Calm Cacao, Nibble Chocolate, or All-Star Chocolate publish a beta-glucan percentage or a third-party lab test result, the same disclosure standard set by capsule brands like Nootropics Depot and Real Mushrooms elsewhere on this site.

Is mushroom chocolate whole mushroom powder or an extract?

It depends on the brand and isn't always stated. All-Star Chocolate's own FAQ describes whole mushroom powder ground into the chocolate. Four Sigmatic states its Calm Cacao uses a fruiting-body extract. Nibble Chocolate doesn't specify either way on its product pages.
